What is the weight-holding capacity of the longboard carrier rack?
This SUP/ longboard bike rack can hold a board up to 25 lbs. if diligently mounted and right fit for bike/rider. Tubes are pre-bent to hold boards up to 3.5 inches in thickness (if your board is a little thicker than that, the bars can be bent open a bit to make more room).
Will the longboard rack work with a 4.5" wide SUP?
We do not recommend a longboard bike rack for SUP's that are too thick (>4"), so it won't fit, and you wouldn't be able to adjust (bend) the rack to accommodate that thickness. However, you can buy separate SUP Bar sets that are larger versions of the cradles on our standard bicycle and surfboard moped racks. Cradle interior width increases from 3.8" to a complete 6" to handle thicker SUP boards, including inflatable SUPs. For further details and to place an order for the SUP bar set extensions, please send an email at email@example.com
I have a 12 feet board. Can I put it on the Longboard bike rack?
For any board above 10', it can get in the way of handle bars. So we recommend using a beach cruiser bike with a high-rise handlebar.
What Surfboards does the shortboard rack fit?
This Shortboard Rack variant is recommended for boards up to about 7-8 feet in length. The U-shape padded surfboard cradles fit boards up to 3.5 inches thick. The length of each cradle can be adjusted using the 5 locking positions with the push button, approximately 1 inch apart each. Two anchor loops also allow you to wrap a bungee cord over your boards for safe transport.
Is the item durable?
It only attaches to the seat post, so as long as you don't have the seat all the way down touching the frame, you should be good.
The width between the bars holding the surfboard looks to be about 4 inches. How can it hold a board up to 8 inches thick?
The only boards that thick are a large-sized SUP or a Foil, for which we have the longboard carrier; however, it would need the Lower Bar SUP extensions. Please send us a message at firstname.lastname@example.org to order the replacement bars for SUP's more expansive than 4".
Is it easy to attach and detach?
Yes. It will take a screwdriver to attach and detach, and you can also transfer the rack system to another bike.
How does the Longboard rack attach to my bike?
The initial install of this rack is super easy! The rack itself is a set of 2 independent rack arms, 1 mounted at the front of your bike, and 1 mounted at the rear of your bike. (Keep in mind you won't be able to mount this on a bike with a front basket as it attaches where the basket is!) To begin, you simply secure the rack’s front U-clamp to your bike’s headstock (one of the strongest places on every bike). The clamp comes with padded rubber to protect your bike’s paint, and will fit a wide variety of head stock diameters. With the back clamp you have two options on where to mount it: the rear seat post or onto your bike’s pre-existing rear basket (or metal splash guard). The rear rack mounting option allows this rack to accommodate a wider range of bikes and longer surfboard sizes.
Materials used for the seat post clamp, hardware, and tubing?
Aluminum for seat post clamp and tubing. Stainless Steel for the screws.
Will this work well with a 50-inch long skim board or a paddleboard?
